When I first walked into her and her husband’s apartment, the ceiling was the first thing I noticed. The texture was thick, but not popcorn texture thick – more like stalagmites in a cave (2”-3” stalagmites, not 15’ ones). I know what you must be thinking—weird, right? If I hadn’t seen it for myself, I’d think so too, but as it was, the ceiling MADE the place. Because of the texture, the lighting bounced off the ceiling in just the right places and created the kind of ambiance you could only get in a cave (the surface – not the depths).
Immediately upon entering, we felt relaxed, and almost as if we’d stepped into another world. Without trying too hard, those ceilings brought everything together – from the hardwood flooring, to the rugs, to the furniture, to the wall art.
I think that was the first time I ever gave much thought to ceiling texture, and it’s what prompted this blog post. So, without further ado, here are 4 ceiling texture techniques for you to consider:
Skim Coating
Popcorn
For special effects, sprinkle some glitter into the mixture – it actually looks a lot cooler than it sounds!
Slapbrush
Mud Swirl
